I need a job! (not spam)

Luke Varnadore
My contract ran out and there is a hiring freeze! Looking for a *nix admin
position. I have strong experience with virtual systems, LAMP stacks, and
enterprise software. I do well working to improve software projects.

Link to my resume to see if I may be a good fit:

Re: I need a job! (not spam)

Jeff Ray
Luke,

I work for Citibank out near Brandon.  Citi has a campus of about 5000
people out here.  I would suggest you visit Citi.com and see what is
available that interests you.  There are over 300 openings out here.
I started here over a year ago as a contractor via Addeco.   I then got
hired permanent.

Good luck !

Bishop, Mark
But talking/complaining about tele-marketers is somehow relevant?

I don't see a problem with his post.  It even had a linux component in
it unlike some other discussions.

Re: I need a job! (not spam)

Adam J. Farrell
The rules page listed on the suncoastlug.org throws an error. FYI

Traditionally, both posting of job offers as well as soliciting is not
an acceptable topic. I'm not in a position of any authority on this;
Dylan certainly is. I'd heed his (polite) warning. (...and, Dylan [et
al] fix the rules page error...)

Likewise...though, while I know that SLUG has a place for corporations
to post it may be beneficial to have a "People Looking..." section; we
personally have a recruiter here and between him and employees, we
will approach individuals (Off-List) if we feel said individuals have
merit based on their technical postings on various LUGs.

Thank you for the replies but I did make a mistake by soliciting a
reasonable reply. If you have suggestions please email me directly or chat
with me in the slug #lobby. Rules were just posted. It was designed for
situations that aren't like this one, but rules are rules.

Please, do not mail the list with job offers. I'm sure talking about it is
fine but no offers on the list please.

Luke,

Are you limited to the Tampa area? I have 5 backfills we're looking to
place in our UNIX department.

http://www.datapipe.com

Great opportunity, and from the looks of your resume would be a really
good resume builder.

Salary range is $50-100k; I'm not an authorotative individual on the
amount of $$$ you'd make but based on your skillset listed on your
resume I'd think somewhere in the 55-65 range.

We have locations in the NYC metro(2 offices you could work from in
NJ), Austin TX, San Jose CA, Hong Kong, CN and London, UK

I highly suggest (having been a former R-Stream employee and having
grown my skillset tremendously since being there -- and having a
decent skillset, there...) going to a managed services provider so
that you can get a feel for a little bit of everything, wear a lot of
hats, and find a niche market you really enjoy in *nix administration.
Likewise, we're a decent sized company (Couple hundred people...)
thats ran like a startup still...but has sweet perks like... free
drinks (not like the R-Stream free drinks we had, fuck that shit!),
paid Lunch on Thursdays, and a lot more.

If you were interested I could chat more with you.

Regards,

Read my post. I did not say anything about Luke's post; I requested
that no replies be made to it as
replying has the potential to violate list policies.

Luke is a past co-worker; we have partaken of grilled food and bad
science fiction movies.
He is a member of my non-slug, semi-private IRC channel; and I track
his every movement upon the great globe itself.
In short, he's a friend.

I have already spoken with him about his ambitions and he excused
himself for the post.
That is even after I said it was not in technical error (albeit an
invitation for lawlessness).

In short, your internal organs should feel firm and ripe with the
knowledge that I will not hesitate to
ensure rules are kept even to such a middle-order comrade.

Thats right! No one expects the Spanish Inquisition! Or would that be Irish?

Re: I need a job! (not spam)

Timothy Jones
In reply to this post by Luke Varnadore
I understand rules are rules, but surely no-jobs rule dates from another era when jobs were plentiful and easy to get into.

Things are much different now, and I wouldn't mind seeing a pink slip given to that rule, as long as the job offered or sought involves Linux.  We need to be much more aware of local opportunities and available people,  and hyper-vigilant in helping our comrades in this most critical area.

I've had a great Linux development job for the past 12 years here in Tampa (and we are hiring too, BTW), but that could change tomorrow without warning.  I would like to think you all would be able to help me on such a dark day.

Its not like Tampa is a major tech city or something...
